Leaders of data protection from 10 nations – Canada, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Spain and the United Kingdom – have written a letter to Google CEO Eric Schmidt expressing their concern about some of the privacy issues connected with a few of Google’s services, specifically Google Buzz and Google Street View.
“We were disturbed by your recent rollout of the Google Buzz social networking application, which betrayed a disappointing disregard for fundamental privacy norms and laws,” the letter stated. “In essence, you took Google Mail (Gmail), a private, one-to-one web-based e-mail service and converted it into a social networking service, raising concern among users that their personal information was being disclosed.” (more…)
It’s been nearly two week since Google launched their own social network known as Google Buzz, and users are now weighing in and sharing their opinions. If you’re not sure what Google Buzz is all about,it simply a cross between Facebook & Twitter. You are able to integrate a number of social networks to you Buzz feed including Twitter & Flickr. Facebook has not teamed up with Google at this time.
I’ve been trying to figure out the new social media for the past week and I must say it’s a bit confusing! And I even consider myself to be pretty internet savy. I’m usually pretty good at spotting out the social networks that’ll make it. For example, last year is when Twitter became popular and what it is today, but I have been on the site for close to 3 years now. But Google Buzz, I can’t just figure out the hype about it. From Google trying to get into the social media business, to Facebook celebrating 6 years on the web and a weather man going crazy, get caught up in today’s social media news brief.
At about 10:30AM PST, Bradley Horowitz, Google’s Vice President for product Management announced in a press conference that Google will open it’s own social media known as Google Buzz.
Horowitz brought on Todd Jackson, product manager for Google Buzz, to actually introduce the product. Google Buzz with be integrated with G-mail accounts as Jackson called it “an entire new world.”
He first introduced 5 key’s that make up Google Buzz. Those being, auto-following, a fast sharing experience, both public and private sharing, inbox integration and finally, “just the good stuff.” (more…)
