Facebook Users Get Free Security
By Kyle Aevermann In Social MediaIn today’s economy, there is nothing like the word ‘free’. And when it comes to your own security, you can’t pass it up. Facebook has teamed up with McAfee security, one of the world leaders in computer safety, to offer a free six month subscription to McAfee’s security software to all of Facebook’s 350+ million users. And if users decide they want to continue their software after their subscription ends, they’ll be offered a special discount.
It’s a big move on both Facebooks & McAfee’s part. McAfee’s say’s they are giving software that costs about $35 on the site. If you take that and multiply it by 350 million, that’s just less than $12.25 billion dollars before tax.
Facebook says, “one of the best defenses against security threats is a good offense, and we want to help you take the offensive by having the latest security software installed on your computer.”
Facebook users will have a year to take Facebook & McAfee up on their offer. If you’re looking into cash in, be sure to visit the Protect Your PC tab on the McAfee Page on Facebook.
The company says that they, We’re committed to doing everything we can to help you protect your account and make your experience on Facebook as safe and enjoyable as possible. We invest in dedicated teams and advanced technical systems that detect and block suspicious behavior. When we find a message with a link to a fake login page or other malicious website, we prevent it from being sent and delete all instances of it from the site.”
Facebook ends by saying, “We’re not aware of another free Internet service that takes this much responsibility for helping people keep their accounts secure.”
